EXE TRACKDAY 11th December 2006 - 3km track

EXE TRACKDAY 11th December 2006 - 3km track

on the day i was just lucky that i managed to get into 1:43... most of the time i was at 1:45 and 1:46. i keep playing with tyres setting and in the end settle with 30 front and 38 back....

i'll try to be consistent in 1:44s next time around... and hope can get close to your time... Razz although i know its gonna take me very long time to get to ur level... hehehe

350z is very2 forgiving as i made sooo many mistake like turn in too early, spun off the track, fish tailing coz one wheel was off the track... but everytime that happen, the car still feel so stable... oh my god i love this car!!! 350Z rock!!! it may not be the fastest on straight like the 200kw atw motec equiped WRX STi on the day... lol (i always yelled 'MONICAAA!!!!' whenever im behind him on the straightline, and it turns very fast too... )

my mod on the day:
235/45/17 RE55s all around with 17x8 BSS, APS exhaust, K&N pod filter, megan racing downpipe, Project Mu HC+ pads, RBF600 brake fluid, 10W60 castrol edge...

i spun out alot of time... heres the breakdown...
first i put number on the turns to make this easier... clockwise...

session 1 - turn 4
going in too fast from 4th gear, i chuck it in 2nd gear, floor it, and car start with understeer and then span back to the other direction.... did full 270degree... car stall...

session 1 - turn 7
going in with 3rd gear, entering about 5000rpm then i realise i enter too quick, front start shudder and understeering, press the brake and jam into 2nd gear... the rear just went crazy after that.... managed to recover after 2-3 fish tail....

session 2 - turn 7
same thing happened... just abit slower... entering with 3rd gear, this time i just understeer till near the ripple strip and then when i off throttle, the car grip and snap to the other direction....

session 2 - turn 9
enter turn 8 with 3rd gear, flooring it, fish tail abit, then keep revving up and enter turn 9 in 3rd gear still at 6000 rpm... putting too much throttle and spun 180 degree....

session 3 - turn 6
enter turn 4 in 2nd gear... hit limiter before entering turn 5.... shift up to 3rd on turn 5.... then shift down to second on turn 6, and power out.... rear slide out and did a full spin....

session 3 - turn 7
at different laps, did turn 4, 5 and 6 in 2nd... hit limiter when exit turn 6 shift up to 3rd and 4th.... then shift down to 2nd on turn 7, and power out....

session 4 - turn 7
as above.... same mistake.... duh....

session 4 - turn 9
same as session 2 mistake...

session 5 - turn 9 (twice)
try something new... take turn 8 with 2nd gear... power out and keep the rev up till turn 9... and spin out 2 times on different laps... i think i turn in late and putting too much throttle...

session 6 - turn 3 (the double apex)
first warm up lap.... on 4th gear at long left sweeper turn 3... semis still abit cold, and start losing grip after first apex, and shift down to third.... fish tailing at least 4 times till i reached turn 4....

Razz so from what i see... the main limitation here is me... not the car... Razz i guess i'll try better next time...

its very fun... my first time to winton was in my mazda3 and my first time driving the 350z was at sandown last month... and this is my second time at winton and second time using the 350z on the track, its soo much different driving RWD in this track compared to the FWD... but i must say its soooo much FUN!!!!! yeeeeehaaa...

DIY Smoked Tailight

*this might be illegal, so do it at ur own risk.... i've got another spare of tailight, so i can swap it back anytime...

need:
* 1 can of 'Night Shade' tint
* 1 can of clear coat
* appropriate tools
* sand paper 180, 800, 1200, 2000
* masking tape

  1. remove your taillights... may be different on every car, so i wont discuss into detail here... please refer to your workshop manual... or just common sense... lol...

  2. mask the area that you dont want to be painted... and sand with 800grit...

  3. i cracked my tailight when im trying to take it off, so i fixed it with some plastic filler, sand it back, and im planning to paint matt black around that area to hide the flaw... so i mask that area off...

  4. then after i painted that area matt black, i masked them again, but remember to overlap... leave some bits unmasked... just hopefully you dont have to go thru this

  5. spray thin layer at the time of the night shade.... allow 1 minute drying time between each coats.... i did 3-4 thin coats... depending on your taste, you can go darker.... me, i'll go medium...

  6. after that, remove the masking of the matt black parts, and spray clear coat thru the whole surface... this will blend the matt black and nightshade together.... i sprayed 2 thick layers... or maybe 3 Razz

  7. heat gun is optional... dont burn the paint... i did it coz me and jase did the painting pass midnight and it was quite cold... u wont need this when its warm day...

  8. and now the bumper lights... repeat the same process for this...

finito! Razz

THX TO:
Unco / Jason... for staying up 2 nights and helping me sand... now ur gonna get used to moving that hand up and down... lol... thx man...
