Custom Intake Part 2

Custom Intake Part 2

ok this time im make the heat shield. i tried using a stock airbox and the pod filter wouldnt fit inside... (you can pry the stock aibox open. start from bottom side. they even have the prying hole ready)

so i had to make it from allumunium again... still got the left over from the cooling plate...

took about 1hour to do... i had to make custom bracket to hold the shield and put enough gap between the shield and the pod filter...

*those blue plastic around the rivet nail is the laminate protective cover for the allumunium... i forget to took that off before applying the rivet nail... lol... and now i cant be bothered peeling the leftover bits.... maybe later when i do the 3rd part....

i bent the front side bit to make some funnel effect... to force slightly larger volume to the pod filter...

this heat shield wont completely get rid of 'heat soak' nor that it will give any significance power gain... it will only help reduced it...

the next step is to make the hose that feed cold air to the intake...

Cooling Plate - Part 2

Cooling Plate - Part 2

i bought the allumunium sheet from bunnings... around $15

then i traced the cardboard mock up, and cut the sheet with jigsaw machine and use metal sheet cutter for tricky bits...

this bits is hard to get it smooth... so i will have to dremel it with a sander drum...

here is the smooth edge after i sand it with dremel...

then i drill 4 holes for the clip holder...

i put the foam window seal with double tape backing (around $4)

after around 15min sanding with 60 grit sand paper (to create brushed effect) and polish it with brasso... finally its ready for test fit...

the fitting it tricky as i creat enough clearance for the lock at the bumper... but i forget to create clearance for bonnet latch hook... so when i close it, it bend the allumunium sheet.... lucky its fixable.... i had to cut extra 1cm to provide that clearance....

voila! Razz finish this part... i might paint it later... if i can be bothered...

SANDOWN - 1min 29sec

AROCA Trackday - Sandown 8th October 2006

i did my PB 1min 29.067sec

i did 1min 29sec for my best time....
mod spec:
- K&N Pod Filter
- 4 x 17x8 BBS
- 4 x 235/45/17 RE55s
- stripped interior - 37.2kg saved

here is the list of the times for that day:
http://www.racetime.com.au/?event=s0607&e=g01&view=fastest

and here is per session, detailed time record:
http://www.racetime.com.au/?event=s0607

it was showering and damp in the morning... lol... and the wind freeze my butt... but the day getting better as it reach midday... its great to meet few other Z driver... Yun (blue CWest 350Z) and David M (silver 350Z)... but the main reason i go to the trackday was David M... his reputation precede him... and i thank him for all the tips and advice....

starting with more than 2 minutes lap time... Razz and then work my way up to 1min 34s on the first session... that was with VDC / traction control ON...

so the next session, i thought i'll try without them...as soon as i turned the VDC - OFF... i spun at the first corner... Laughing semis still cold and im just crap at it.... after few laps, i managed to get consistent 1min 30sec....

it was lots of fun... after i started following david M, then i realised how late his braking is, how he took the lines and other stuff.... but i always spun after sticking behind him for 1-2 laps,

i dont think i will ever did my best time without learning from david, also david keep encouraging me to try to break my 1:30 (i was stuck with 1:30 for a while)... i was giving up and ready to go home, then david ask me to do another session. that session was pretty empty (most car have gone home) and i'm lucky to get behind david's slip stream and follow his lines.... thats when i got my PB... thx to him once again... i didnt think 1min29sec was possible for me....

i learn alot from that day and being FWD driver in most of my driving experience, i panicked when i experience my first oversteer on 120kmh turn.... nearly hit a wall by less than 1 meter.... my hand goes everwhere trying to steer back while the wiper and indicator accidently turned on... and before i know it i've done 180 turn....

350z is so well balance.... although i wouldnt know how it compares on track against other RWD (since i havent driven other RWD on the track), i thought it was pretty easy and forgiving for me to handle... i still need to be gentle on the accelerator and i still need to learn a clean line... i tend to slide the car too much and hard on the rubber... i think the 350 really does has lots of potential and i feel like i've got sooo much to learn to be able to drive this beast properly.. its also handle great! even with my messy line and spinning out of the track (at least once every session), its very forgiving... what a great car...

i cant wait to be back at winton and try this car out there... more tricky corners and more skills required there... while at sandown i felt like it wasnt as driver oriented as winton...

BRIDE GIAS low max - RED/Carbon

i always wanted this seats.... and last week i came across a good deal at some online sale and i couldnt resist it...

its BRIDE GIAS - Low Max... carbon fibre back...

i've promised myself not to put it on till i got my base time at winton (december)

fire extinguisher

went out all night on saturday.... i got not enough time to do the brake pads, brake fluid and the fire extinguisher... so little time, so much to do... so i gotta choose only to do one of them

i've got abit above the marker brake pads, i thought i will just use the stock brake pad for the trackday... hopefully it will last....

and brake fluid, this car only has 25000km when i bought it... so i think the brake fluid will hold to... worse come to worse, it will just boiled earlier... Razz

so now the fire extinguisher... its a compulsory requirement to race in sandown track... so, thats the first thing that i should worry about...

quickly made one with a metal plate that i got from bunning, and then use rivet to joint them and use the 2 front seats bolt to hold the bracket....

Rear Wiper Removal

Rear Wiper Removal

well... few reasons:
1. i dont like how the rear wiper sitting on the right hand side of the car
2. looks ugly (at least for me)
3. i never use them
4. shave off 2kg... huahahaha

so, i took off the cap at the pivot point and remove the nut holding it... then turn the whole wiper arm anti-clockwise... need some brute force for this....

then i took off 3 bolts holding the wiper motor, i had no problem reaching the motor as i've got all the interior stripped.... then disconnect the electrical harness...

then i reuse the rubber seal, and fill the holes using nut and bolt...

then cover the bolt with a bolt cover.... (i made them from scrap plastic, but you can get them from bunnings)

then plug the rubber back to the hole...

and this is how it looks from outside...

COMPLETED:

Custom Intake Part 2

Custom Intake Part 2

so, i've ordered the adapter $5 from ebay...

and then, i made this bracket + cable tier for extra support (Laughing)

Custom Intake Part 1

Custom Intake Part 1

K&N double cone... got it on sale for $80AUD....

now all i need is a custom piping with AFM adapter, custom heat shield, and a air duct (gotta make this somehow... still researching)

rear indicator tint and BBS 17 fitted

rear indicator tint and BBS 17 fitted
got bored.... and i tinted the rear indicator lights... its used to be white coloured....

also i fit the 2nd hand forged BBS 17 that i bought few weeks ago... ready for a track day... just waiting for the tyres...

also im quite surprised when i look up the background history of this wheels... its actually an OEM nissan wheels for R32 GTR V-Spec II

RE55s

im gonna have few trackdays... 8th of october... then november and our own trackday in december....

so i thought that it might worth investing on a good tyres... so here we go... 4 x 235/45/17 all around of RE55s

DIY CUSTOM OIL COOLER - PART 1

DIY CUSTOM OIL COOLER - PART 1

hmmm... i cant afford the Nismo oil cooler... (around $1100AUD)...

so i order this parts from ebay...

19 rows alluminium cooler for $54AUD shipped...

and this sandwich plate for $90AUD shipped...

i was gonna make the oil filter relocation kit instead of only a sandwich plate, but then i had a look down there, and 350Z oil filter in not hard to reach... in fact its very easy... so i can save some $$ and forget about relocation kit...

atm, im making a bracket for it... will post some pics soon...

also i ordered the braided oil line and the hi-low fittings for the connector from PIRTEK.... they supply some really high quality stuff... highly recommended...

to be continued...

New Jack

got a new jack from ebay...

habbah habbah.... well.. it look pretty and its quite light... but it doesnt perform like a real racing jack... Razz still have to pump few times.... ah well... the price is one third of the real racing jack... so i cant complain...

brake fluid, pad and oil

Brake Fluid and front pads

planning to go to the track on 8th...

so... since my brake fluid look like a hot chocolate, i bought these yummy Motul RBF600... habbah habbah...

more info here:
http://www.buybrakes.com/store/MOTUL-8069HC

then the front pad nearly finish (20%), on the street, i probably still can use it for another 10000km... but on trackday, i better not risk it... so i bought the Project Mu HC Titan Kai... which now known as HC+ (plus) - operate from 0-800degree... its a carbon metal pads...

more info here:
http://www.project-mu.co.jp/e/product/hc-t.html

oil filter... i'm just using the OEM nissan one...

i will probably convert to the S2000 oil filter in the future since both have the same thread pattern it got more surface area (larger diameter and height)

350Z filter
Threads: M20x1.5
O.D.: 2.69
Height: 2.93

S2000 oil filter
Threads: M20x1.5
O.D.: 3.15
Height: 2.95

1st Oil change since i bought it....

picked up the car at 25500km on the odometer... now is 28300km... been pushing it thru yarra bend and mount dandy too much... time for new oil!!!

yum!!! hungry? Razz

im using the mobil1 5W50 for the track... and for daily driving i still got 2 x 5ltr of the 7.5W30 OEM nissan special blend oil.... probably after that i'll just stick with mobil1 gold...
