DIY Custom Headlight PART 1

i pick up this twins on ebay last week and i will use them for my low beam




its still a long way to go... im still researching on the right hi beam projector, the spare headlight casing and also trying to figure out the wiring diagram

its a start... hope i didnt take too long to finish this

this dunlop rated as high as RE55... but only one way to find out

PART 1: DIY/Custom AERO mirror

RICE MODE: ON... lol... supposedly aero dynamic mirror... supposedly (yeah right)

anyway... price is low, looks good... so i decided to get one...

but i dont like the fake CF pattern and the indicator on it... so i will paint the whole thing is RED or Black...

1. the fugly mirror


2. take the mirror of... pop it out with using screw driver slipped in the gap... be gentle... not to break the mirror... use common sense...


3. pull them apart...


4. pull the built in indicator apart... i will reuse this someday.... but at this stage i wont need it... i only need the outer transparent plastic to fill the hole on the mirror casing back...


5. put the transparent plastic back in the mirror casing's hole and glue it on there...


6. here is the current look... and on the PART2 i will show how i want to make it all the same color... i will use some putty to cover the gap between the casing and the transparent plastic...
so for now PART 1 is just pulling them apart and remove all the LED wiring... btw, this mirror is fully motorize... although i am not sure how long the china made mirror motor gonna last huahaha

voila, vent it is...


now i have two options:

1st is to put the air scoop at the front of bumper.... give that add on look


2nd is to put the air scoop behind the bumper... and later patch with some putty and fiberglass fill to make it smooth and give it one piece look...

Vented CF bonnet

just a quick update on the frog before the rx8club / ozrenesis winton track day sunday the 11th of march 2007.... been itching to put this on...

the first bonnet came was cracked abit... and been waiting for the replacement till now... and now i decided to just fit the cracked one for now

my mate jhonny in black DC2 did 1:44... its Very heavy traffic that day!!! :( i had to keep overtaking and cant always get the best line...

new PB @ winton - 1:42s

i went to winton for the second time with the 350Z (on australia day) yesterday. its a winton 'test&tune' day and managed to get a new PB.

New PB (jan07): 1:42.2420 sec - consistent 1:43-44s
Previous PB (dec06): 1:43.9470 sec - consistent 1:45-46s
PB improvement: 1.705 sec

here are the detail of my Lap times for the whole day... 26th of jan 2007


comments:
i starting to know how to handle the car... although im still not very sure about it... i will be back for more until i can be consistent.

session 1: it was packed, i had to do alot of avertaking... 2 RX7s spun and nearly hit me. Dantze got that on tape. will up load soon. it was all over the place. never got a chance to use optimum line and gears except for one lap... which is 6th lap...

session 2: i enter the track first with the hope i can get my best lap... so i did... get it on the 2nd lap.... but then after that the traffic start getting congested again...

session 3: midday and the track temp rise up dramatically... more than 50degree (source: takahasi with his laser temperature gun)... i was all over the place, the tyres over heated, the car feel slugish and i boiled my gearbox fluid (i can smelled it from the cabin) then i decided to finish off early after the ninth lap.

session 4: most of the car went home by this time, so i got a 'traffic free' track... but the temperature was going up like hell... i did full consistent 1:43 with no obstruction whatsoever.... but funnily, i drove faster under pressure in session 1 and 2... i dont know whether its the temperatur difference... but i cant seem to get 1:42 anymore... and i smell the gearbox fluid really bad this time... so i decided to stop after 5 laps and went home

this is what i think i would like the final MERAH look like... hopefully i can finish it before i have kids...

i've got the CF bonnet since last december... but still waiting for them to resent another one since the first one was cracked...

then i'll put a hole on the front bumper (my intake is behind that)

then just paint the CF abit on the sides... and paint black the headlight surrounds... wish me luck
