SHIROSAME Facebook Page

i made a facebook page for Bimmo my E30... since its ended its life as a road car and being converted into full race car...

the project is called Shirosame (read: see-row-sa-mae. 白鮫) which mean a white shark... why white shark?

  1.  the nature of white shark, swims by moving its rear tail only, and the front fins are only being use to steer... which represent the love of rear wheel drive purist car 
  2.  it cannot swim backward... only can swim forward... this represent our spirit, and bravery to keep moving forward not matter what the problem or danger lies ahead. 
  3.  it will keep swimming to stay alive, even when it trapped on a net or coral, it will keep trying to move until it dies... this represent our persistence behind this project and team.

DEBUT RACE! ISOM round 2 - 29th May 2011 @ Sentul Circuit

RESULT:
5th place BMW Open class - Super Touring
2nd place BMW OMR Open Class


Personal Observation:
at the Race Personal Best Lap: 1 minute 55.02 second (during 2 races, with other cars around, without ability to take the best race line) this prove that i haven't pushed 100% on my Qualifying (QTT) before the engine blew was not maximised yet as i got best time of 1:55s too on my QTT. with minor adjustment on the brake, i am confident that next QTT i can get 1:52-3

Recap:

1st race, 11:40am BMW Super Touring & Combined Group
finish: 5th place BMW Open class - Super Touring


we actually finished and got the 3rd place on this class. but we got disqualified because of few fatal mistake i made and we have to be happy with the 5th place BMW Open class - Super Touring

the only problem i found on this race was:
1. forgot to adjust the seat before the race *face palm* since my fixed seat sat abit far away.... solution: loosen the harness and sit abit out of the sit hahaha

2. floor mounted accelerator pedal came off during the race on 4th lap. i cannot heel and toe... solution: double clutching

3. the front right tyres have a huge flat spot from the practice day and has wires coming out of it... solution: progressive braking and abit of trail braking on the entry to fight the understeer...

4. i made 3 fatal offenses because i missed the briefing:
- i did overtaking during warm up lap.
i booted the car as soon as i saw green lights and overtaking few cars ahead LOL... so i slowed down and let everyone pass me on the next straight...

- i didn't start on my grid after the warm up lap.
after i let everyone pass during warm up lap, we lap back to the starting grid and i forgot where my grid was, so i just took the empty spot

- fail to do the 'pit penalty drive thru'.
this is a penalty from 2 offenses above, i was meant to enter the pit during the race, do 60kmh speed cap and re enter the race track...

i saw the '999 to the pit' sign, but i thought my number was '9'

what happened is, my initial number given to me was '9' and then on entry point, when they install my transponder, they stuck another 2 '9' to make it '999' because another car from another class has number '9'...

so i kept on driving when i saw that sign...

after the race, i got summoned by the head of the motorsports and given the official disqualifications, and stripped away my 3rd place winning.

i still won the 5th place overall BMW super touring.



2nd race, 15:20 BMW Open Group
finish: 2nd place BMW Open B class


after quickly cable tied my broken accelerator pedal, we do another inspection...

the front brake pedal is low, so i ask bambang to replaced it with the one i bought from Tristar. we ordered replacement Jurid ATE pad from E90 320i. none of us realised that we were given the 'imitation' pad from E36 320i...

after the disqualification process, brake bleeding process, lunch and gulping 3 bottle of pocari sweats (no its not a sponsored message hahaha), i jumped back into the grid start and do the 2nd race...

on the first start i managed to jumped from 4th to 3rd position and kept up with both 3500cc E36 on 1st and 2nd position... halfway at the back, entering the small 'S' bend.... i was hitting 200kmh at the back straight on 5th, and i pressed the brake.... my heart almost stop when my car didnt stop... the brake pedal stayed on the floor, the wheels arent locking and the car isnt slowing down...

panicked, i went straight to 3rd gear and rode the clutch out and shift to 2nd briefly and back to 3rd out of the S bend...

you can see the accidental entry to the small S on minute 1:13 from the video...

i then on pull the brake pedal back but then no more braking from the front.... so here is my solution on every corner:

1. start braking from 400m, coz the rear brake still works, i can feel it...
2. shift down each gear without rev match and rode the clutch to ease the engine brake effects but at the same time slowing down my speed...



the engine that was finished being built 8am that morning, not only held up but pull strongly.... but the last 5th lap, i had to readjust as the rear brake doesnt work anymore... so i relied on the engine brake alone....

one of the racer behind me complained:

racer X: "if you don't know how to brake, and brake that far off, please stay out of my way"
silas: "sorry, here is what happened, i lost my front brake... so i had to engine brake but at the same time i had to finish the race no matter what"
racer X: "then stay out of my way, don't stay on the racing line and let me pass... u boot it on the straight and i cannot over take you"
silas: "..."

other racer butt in... lets call him racer Y

racer Y: "no... silas is at the front, you are behind him... he can take which ever line he want and finish the race... you can try over take him like everyone else on the corner or beat his braking as he had to slowdown earlier... this is racing"

racer X: keep complaining and yelling

silas: "sorry..."

oh dear...

after race we found out that the pad is imitation, it overheats and cooked the brake fluid, and broke the brake master cylinder... one of the mechanic scratched his head and said "how did you made it thru the corners with this conditions??" i was like "lol, it wasn't that bad before"



to be done before next race: improved braking system... stronger brake master cylinder.

good news: the engine run healthy and has no problem... first time for me as i have moved from workshop to workshop before... and thanks to tekno tuner for building me a strong health M20!
